My son played in the playpen as I worked 12-hour days, sanding the floor and removing wallpaper. Ha! We were getting closer to finishing, but it was still a long way off. To furnish the home, it was going to take a lot of effort both in time and money. It was also going to be a challenge go to my favorite stores. To keep my budget in good shape, I went out with my three boys in search for bargains at estate sales. It was our weekly routine of walking around auctions and garage sales on Sundays and Saturdays, and buy a variety of furniture, both new and old constructed. It was my job to spend the day in the driveway painting or sanding. The look was a little similar to this... Here's where my love for in the process of restoring old furniture got started. The issue was not whether the home was decorated. I also had a booth at the market, where I would sell items. I was able to outgrow the area because I had numerous pieces I needed. Over 1000 people visited my home in just one weekend to buy everything that was on the ground. It was here that my business Growing Days was born. Alongside my flourishing business, I also grew our family. Finding the balance was important to me. I wanted to be a mom and also a successful business owner. Growing Days just seemed to be the right fit. Nora came into our lives in 2013 to be our fourth baby. My business was going well however I needed a break. I decided to quit doing work on my furniture and spend time with my kids. The time was right. After a while, after that, the phone began to ring. Many people called me for help on home improvement and decorating. They had mainly been to my home during open houses that were held for furniture. In the course of my work I began adding clients to my list one by one. But it wasn't long before I had many clients and operated a profitable home improvement business. Had you told me my business would be the premise for a DIY Network show, I might have thought you were crazy. It's hilarious to look back about the idea.
