Laura Linney is an American actor who has become popular for her portrayal of vulnerable but strong characters. Her father was a renowned writer, however she was raised as an only child by her single-mother, a nurse. During the summers and with her father, Linney developed a passion for theatre. She eventually studied acting initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway soon after graduation, she appeared in films within two years. She also appeared on TV following a year. Since then, she's performed in many films and stage and television productions. Her nominations include three Tony Awards, three Academy Awards, five Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her time on the stage. The actress has received nominations for five Tony Awards, and three Oscar Award nominations. However, despite her recognitions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she'll continue to play on stage and screen.
